New flatter, faster route for the Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon on 30 September 2012

This month Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon organiser, Sweatshop Events, unveils the new flatter, faster course through the iconic city of Nottingham.

Venturing along the tree-lined University Boulevard, runners will take in the beautiful Highfields Lake and University of Nottingham courtyard, one of the most iconic buildings in Nottingham.

The fast, flat and flowing course boasts a magical view of the castle as runners descend on Castle Boulevard. See the Famous Trent Bridge cricket ground and Nottingham Forest Football Club as you wind along the river to the finish at Victoria Embankment.

The final 400m of the race sees a new finish this year – runners will take on the new flood defence cycle track looking down on the heritage race village, which will feature a feast of family entertainment. Runners, spectators, families and friends can meet to celebrate race day and everyone’s achievements.

Stephen Burnside, Managing Director of headline sponsor, Ikano, says: “This Summer, the world’s most talented athletes will descend on London; however, 2012 is also a year to inspire community spirit and the taking on of new personal challenges. We are extremely proud to be the headline sponsor of this community race in such an iconic year.

“The Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon is sure to be a day to remember; not only for seasoned runners chasing a new PB, but also newcomers to the world of running. Whatever your experience and running ability, don’t miss out on being a part of one of the fastest and most exciting half marathons around. We would like to wish everyone luck with their training over the coming months.”

Entry fees remain unchanged at £27.75 for UKA affiliated club runners and £29.95 for all other entries. Each runner will receive a medal and plentiful goody bag at the finish line. A number of fuelling stops will be available along the route.

This year the event organisers are also hoping to set a new record for the largest number of Robin Hoods and merry men running a half marathon. To secure your place in this iconic race and to purchase your very own Robin Hood fancy dress costume please visit www.robinhoodhalfmarathon.co.uk
