60% of Nottingham children inspired by the nation’s sporting heroes

There’s no question that sport has become a huge part of our lives this year, but how many of us are guilty of being armchair viewers rather than active participants? With so many role models showing the benefits of a healthy lifestyle on the world stage this year, it’s the perfect time to get young people excited about being active!

A survey* reveals that 60% of children living in Nottingham are inspired by Olympians to become more active. Watching sport on television motivates them to try out sports (41.3%), followed by suggestions from friends (36.9%) and watching their parents play (10.8%).

Nottingham children also revealed that their dad is their number one sporting partner (43.48%) followed by siblings (34.78%), mum (19.57%) and grandparents (2.17%).

With the Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon and Mini Marathon set to take place in Nottingham on September 30th, now is the ideal time for local families to get fit together while enjoying quality time with one another.

Vivienne Saunders, Ikano Financial Services Communications Manager, says: “The Ikano Robin Hood Mini Marathon is a chance for families to get active together. With a scenic route that’s only 1.5 miles you can walk, jog or run so all ages and abilities can get involved."

“For those ready to tackle a longer distance, the Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon has a faster, flatter route through scenic areas of Nottingham for an enjoyable running experience. Whatever distance you are running, family fun will be the heart of the race village on the day, with entertainment in a dedicated area where runners, spectators, family and friends can meet to celebrate a great day.”
